Does viagra work on women?

The other day I got to thinking. Wondering if this famous drug works on women. When your boyfriend wants to do it and you´re not it the mood. Wouldn´t it be great if you could pop a pill and feel the thrill? And if so, what does it do? Does it increase the libido? increase the pleasure during sex? Or does it not effect the female genetalia at all?

The way viagra (Sildenafil) works on men is that it increases the blood flow to the corpus cavernosum at any given level of sexual stimulation. Corpus cavernosum are a pair of sponge-like parts of the penis which contain most of the blood in the penis during an erection. See picture. (transverse picture of the penis)

A female clitoris has the same kind of sponge-like tissue. (corpus cavernosum of clitoris). This tissue fills with blood when the female is aroused. It´s basically the same thing as the male erection, except that the clitoris is much smaller. This is why I´m thinking that its logical that viagra would have an effect on women.  Viagra should increase the bloodflow to the clitoris. It should cause an increased sensitivity of the clitoris.

According to a ”sex and the city” episode it will make you sexlife AMAZING!!! It will make you crazy..  According to what I could find online there is still alot of controversy around this topic. In a few studies it has been shown to have an effect, but none of the studies I could find are valid.

I read that some doctors have started prescribing this drug to woman with sexual dysfuntions, but it is not yet approved by the FDA.  I think it would be revolutionary for alot of woman if it was approved, or if they discovered a drug that would be as effective for female sexual dysfunction as viagra has been for impotence in men.

According to a study that was conducted by Laura Berman, director of the Berman Center and a professor of OB-GYN and psychiatry at Northwestern University in Chicago, and Dr. Jennifer Berman, director of the Female Sexual Medicine Center at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, it says that it enhanced the sex life of many woman and that ”Their enhanced sex lives included better arousal, lubrication and orgasm.”

So from what I have read it increases the pleasure during sex, achivement of orgasm, lubrication, enjoyment and frequency of intercourse. These would be nice things to find in a pill sometimes.

I guess I really didn´t give you an answer to whether or not viagra works on woman. The truth is that no one really knows. Or at least no one knows for sure. I also want to say that taking viagra can give alot of side effects and has quite alot of contraindications. So don´t just take it if you get a hold of it! And also this is not a scientific article (I guess you understood that). I don´t know for sure how credible the articles I have read are, but the seemed pretty good.

Has anyone here tried viagra? If so.. what was your experience?

  1. I have heard about it working too. I haven’t tried it but tell me why it is so difficult to get it approved for women. It shows how advanced our society is. Men of course are approved first.

    1. I think the difficulty lies in hormones etc. but I’m not sure, it should be approved within the decade, (ABOUT TIME) but they need to find out whether it IS a 100% safe. Worth investing in stocks eh? I think that’ll be a seller!!! 🙂

      1. Right. I want it to be safe yes. But they checked it out against men first is my point. We all have hormones, men and women. It was just the priority to help men. Granted I don’t need it but yes, stock in the product might be good because once women start taking it, the world better watch out.

      2. Good point. Probably because their ‘problem’ is more visible (erectile dysfunction) and of course, yes, the product itself was priorities and produced for men. Yeah, I’d invest… Watch out world! Girls are going wild.

  2. I took Viagra once, and the sex was amazing. However, I don’t know if this was because of the Viagra, or the alcohol, or the fact that I slept with a complete stranger at a party. I should have slept with him one more time sober and “straight” to compare! It’s funny though – me and my current fling discussed this recently and I think we both wanna give it a go. I’ll let you know if it happens!

  3. Trefino is the women’s version of Viagra now being tested http://maleescortqld.com/2012/11/01/viagra-for-women-really/ – won’t be long now before squillions of cash is made by a far-sighted few…
As for men first or women first? well I guess we’re damned if we do and damned if we don’t. If some form of viagra-type medication had been produced for women before Viagra, maybe a lot of women would have claimed that as being sexist too. I think it was seen as women (generally) didn’t NEED anything provided the man was able to pleasure them. And kissergirl got it right – it was just more obvious for men and developing something for women proved to be way more complex than anyone thought (just like a woman;) )… and … well … downright expensive!

      Also a fair point!
      Interesting….

  4. Hey!
Just wanna say that viagra was not produced specifically for men with erectile dysfunction. It was developed as a drug against high bloodpressure and chest pain. But after the first clinical trial the patients reportet that it didn´t help for the chestpain, but still no one wanted to give the pills back. Haha! They found out that these hypertensive drugs had helped alot of men with impotence, and that is what it ended up being used for. I think it hasn´t been aproved for woman yet, just because it is not certain if it works. In men erectile dysfunction is usually the problem, and this pill solves that problem. But in woman there are alot more mechanisms to being aroused then just en erect clitoris. Hope this gave y´all some anwers. 🙂
